Youth in Agriculture Initiative

Our Advisory Board began this long-term initiative to develop in youth an understanding of how and where food is grown/produced AND to prepare youth to be gardeners and potential future farmers.

PCPS “Farm-to-School”:

SO Fresh is serving on the Pulaski County Public Schools “Farm-to-School” grant management team, providing the role of Farm Representative for its many planned activities.

“Growing Kids! – a future with local foods” project:

This is our first project under the Youth in Agriculture Initiative. We joined with Dublin Middle School in Pulaski County in a ‘Growing Kids!’ mini-grant from VA Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom (AITC) and are providing technical assistance. SO Fresh played a key role in the design, writing, and executing of this grant program. Eighth graders in Consumer Sciences will prepare soil, grow and harvest vegetables at school and cook with them. Once complete, a package module will be created for other schools.
